KC-Beatdown

Oct. 4, 1999

Hello everyone.  I have posted a link in the links section, go figure, to pictures from the last beatdown.  Go check 'em out!

Sept. 30, 1999

Update.  We have good news, and bad.  The good news is Cali and Quetzal have informed me that in honor of KC Beatdown 10, the entrance fee will be only 10 dollars!  The bad news is that Beatdown 10 has been pushed back to Sat. Nov. 6.  Be sure to update your friends on this.

Also, we would like some suggestions for special things to do in honor of the 10th Beatdown.  Some examples would be, a tournament possibly, and or even a dedicated Quake 1 server to play the game that spun the First Person Shooter genre into an unstoppable whirling beast that is taking over the multiplayer scene.  Please e-mail all or any suggestions to us on the contact section.

This party has the potential of being the BIGGEST yet, and therefore we will need to have a good estimate on the amount of participants.  We have a general list of e-mails from people that usually attend, but if you think that your not on this list, fell free to re-submit a new registration.  Cali has also submitted a list of e-mails for the folks that were, or still are in the KC Gathering loop, and these folks will be receiving an invitation to attend our LAN party.

Well that's about all for now.  I will post more updates as suggestions pop up and if any changes occur.

Sept. 23, 1999

Hello everyone.  If you haven't noticed, the site has moved to a temporary spot, until I get the finances ready to put it on my own domain.  Currently, you will not have to update your bookmarks until I get the domain.  If you have any ideas to do something special for the upcoming beatdown X (ten), contact me or one of the LAN organizers, Cali or Quetzal.  I'd like to see something special happen/done in honor of party number 10.  Beatdown X is currently scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 23.

Sept. 13, 1999

All right!  We have had another successful LAN party!  This is the first time we had several women participate for an extended amount of time, and we encourage more to participate next time.  I was finally able to connect and play Q3A this time, and my new PIII 500 helped to keep my name at the top of the scoreboard! >:)

Also, there was a small scare about a virus present, but it turned out to be a small and thankfully, a harmless prank.  Another strange occurrence, from Dr. Pixel:

"...I started noticing that all of the drives (local and mapped shares) had a file in the
root directory named "________" which was a zero-length file.  Initially I thought I had been the victim of a virus attack, but turns out
McAffe couldn't come up with anything..."
This file is created when you run Re-Volt, and appears to do no harm.  And then there is an issue of a missing CD case, from Cali:
"I have found out that a cd wallet containing approximately 200 cds has
been miss-placed.  Since HarmonatoR & I were the last ones to leave I
know for sure that it was NOT left behind.  Since sometimes it can
become chaotic while packing up or "borrowing" software for copying;
please DOUBLE check the items you brought home to verify that you did
not accidentally pick up this cd wallet.

Please email me with any information and i can return the cd wallet to
the proper owner."

Once again, thank you for all that came, and be sure to be there next time!  Don't forget to bring your friends!  The next LAN is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 23.  Hey, I'll be a daddy by then!

Sept. 9, 1999

Hey, here is the new site I promised.  I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!

Hey kiddies!  Your probably like, "Harm, where the hell did you go?".  Well, immediately following Beatdown VIII, ole Harmz has to work every damn day, 10 to 11 hours each day till this coming Mon.  Sheesh!  That better be a PHAT pay check.

As for a recap of the party, we had 18 Quake fans show up for the carnage and the party ran 14 hours.  I got to reinstall Win98.  Doesn't that sound like fun?

I've been noticing some quirky things going on with this site with different browsers, and resolutions.  And that doesn't make me happy.  :P  So, during the period between now and the next party, I'll be creating yet another masterpiece, this time, with NO frames.  Is that applause I hear?

And we are currently speaking with KC Gathering to see if we can get together and have us a good ole time with something like 30+ gamers.  This would kick butt.  However, there are a few things we have to work out yet so check back for info on this issue.  If you have any questions, concerns, or comments about hooking up with KC Gathering, please visit the CONTACT section and send them to us.

Currently the next LAN party is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11.

July 30, 1999

    This just in!  Quetzal writes:
    GET THIS OUT!!!

             BANQUET HALL INSIDE THE HOTEL!!!
                MUCH COLDER AIR ACCORDING TO
                                 MANAGEMENT!!!

so it will be INSIDE lower level....

July 28, 1999

Hello Quakers!  Ya like the new and improved site?  Well, I do.  Two days to go, and BeatDown VIII commences.

We have a couple of new registrants.  Let's give a warm welcome to Akdov and StormVet.  Their names have been posted in the registration section.

As far as updates go, Cali tells me that he is estimating a rough head count of about 15.  I hoping it may be 20 and up.  What's that?  Me being positive?  I guess it's because the time for the LAN party is getting close.  :P  Also, there will not be an "official" Q2 image this time around.  I was given no reason why.  I suppose it's because most everyone has the mods we will be playing.  If you don't have this image or necessary files, don't worry, we'll get you set up one way or another.

July 23, 1999

Did anyone miss me?  Didn't think so.  Anyway, an update.  Pointless, but an update.  I will be able o attend this round of fragfest due to my move date being pushed back to around the 7th.  I'm not happy about this, but I will at least be able to vent my frustrations upon all of your puny hinds by turning your digitized self into a splatter of gibs. >:)  Oh yea, my brother will be attending also.  So I've got my back covered, until I run out of money.

On an other note, the ephemeral "Mr. I" has sent me a nifty flyer to pass around, and you can get your copy here if you don't already have one.

The most current version of Q3arena is 1.07.  It has a new map, a new weapon (lightning gun), and a tournament feature.

I also plan on playing Team Fortress Classic, just in case you were interested.  So get those binds and scripts prepared.  If you play this, bring your maps (.bsp).

That's about all N stuff, MMMKAYY?

July 6, 1999

Well, I guess no news is good news, right?  Check the archives for previous entries, if your bored.  LAN party is still scheduled for Sat. July 31st.

June 27, 1999

All right crazy "Quakers"!  We have a new registrant today, let's welcome Lord Krypt to the battle!

Quetzal informs me that the next LAN is currently scheduled for 5 weeks from this weekend, which puts it on July 31st.  If my math is correct, this means the party is scheduled the same time I move, damn.  :(  Well, I guess that would be some initiative to do the move REALLY fast...  all I have to do is load truck, drive truck, unload truck, wife unpacks, talk wife into letting me go (the hard part), I haul butt to Grandview, get home the next day just in time for our wedding anniversary...  Can I do it?

Don't forget your sour cream and salsa pork rinds kiddies!  (what the hell is that anyway?)

June 24, 1999 (10 pm)

Hey gang.  links have been updated.  If you have any particular links that you think should be added to that page, that pertain to the mods we play, let me know.

June 24, 1999

Hello again folks.  Hope you like the new layout.  I still have some things to iron out, but you get the jist of it.

We have a  2 new registrants today, WhitePup and Stylgar!  Welcome to the fray.   Thier contact information as well as some others who have registered with me will be displayed in the registration section.

June 22, 1999

Allrighty.  This time around at the ole LAN was another fun filled night of fraging and mayhem.  Only like 15 patrons this time, probably due to the short notice on the date.  We are planning on another in six to eight weeks, so stay tuned!  I'll keep you informed all the way till deathmatch time.  The larger banquet room was much better, easier to get around and keep organized, and much cooler temperature wise, and we didn't have to worry about noise.  Also, I've got some new ideas, and suggestions, so expect a totally new design for the site within the next week.

June 19, 1999

It's finally here!  See you all tonight!

June 15, 1999

Well folks, Generations has been shut down.  ID software put such strict restrictions on the program, that the Generations team decided to put an end to it. Unfortunately, all files and all known mirrors have been wiped from the net regarding the Generations mod.  Fortunately, mua-ha-ha, we have a full copy of version .98 and will be featuring it at the LAN party!  Get those computers tweaked, cause chaos is just around the corner!

June 12, 1999

    One week to go!!

June 6,  1999

Hello again fellow "Quakers".  Trey, the PCDOC is the first to "officially" register.  Glad to see you back on the list, brother!  Cali sent me some pictures of the last LAN party, I'll be putting up some soon, and I'm getting some ideas for a new site layout...  oh, and I just had to post this.
Oh yea, HarmZ at da top of da pack! Boo ya!
Yea, that's right.

June 2, 1999

STOP THE PRESS!!  We have another update, this one comes directly from the "reformatting his computer" Quetzal!  Quetzal has informed me that we are  rescheduling the LAN party due to the short notice and unavailability of the larger banquet hall downstairs.  The new date is SATURDAY, the 19th.  We definitely need everyone to REGISTER in the registration section of this site so we will have enough tables, electrical outlets, and other LANy stuff.  Let's get ready to rumble!!

June 1, 1999

Hello all you blood thirsty Quake players!  There still has not been a definite decision as to which room, upstairs or downstairs, we will have yet, but with the looks of the amount of people confirmed to show, this time around with the LAN party is on shaky ground.  Time is short, and we need some confirmations.  Quoted from Mr. I himself:
...i need confirmations..
the room rental is not free and if we do not get enough confirm entrants
then the whole thing might be canceled...
Say it ain't so!  C'mon now, jump into the FRAY!  It's total carnage, and you know you want it!

May 27, 1999

Holy cow manure, Batman!  We have an update!  Very short notice, but it is here!
Mr. I:

Hello,

Sorry for the extreme delays but.....

With StarWars Episode 1 showing the beatdown got pushed last weekend
back.. then the holiday weekend came up (memorial day) and it got pushed
again.. so it has been over 7 weeks since the last beatdown!!!!

So unless otherwise noted.. the beatdown should be on saturday, noon,
June 5th 1999!

Sorry for the confusion... sorry for any misunderstandings.. and
definitely sorry for the EXTREME delays....

Get your info submitted ASAP.  We want to know who's in!  I'm going to assume that all who were sent this E-mail are going to attend, so I'll update the registered section.  I'm collecting this information, so I can put it in the archives.  I would also be interested in taking pictures of the event, to post on this site.  Rock on!

May 25, 1999

Quake 3 rocks.  Here are two screen shots of my brother, Hansonkilla.
Brand - X striking a pose And.. Brand - X with quad damage

May 24, 1999

Update from Quetzal:  LAN party is scheduled for, "very soon".

We will have the final version of Generations Quake II mod at the LAN party.  Generations gives the player the choice to play as a Q2 marine, Q1 marine, Doom character, or even William, from Wolfenstein 3D, the game that started it all!  We also have hopes of having ready a Quake 3 test server set up, to experience the latest Quake phenomenon!  I have had the pleasure of running Q3A test on my LAN at home, and on the internet.  To sum it up;  "It kicks ass!!".  Unfortunately, setting it up on an individuals computer is not fun, unless you currently have a Voodoo3.  It seems the GL drivers that come with Q3A test are not friendly with voodoo2's, and possibly other accelerator cards.  I had to tinker around for about 30 min trying out various gl .dll's, renaming them for Q3, finally stumbling across one that worked.  If you have a Voodoo2 and have any questions on how to get this working, E-mail me and I'll tell you what I did.

Make sure, if you haven't already, to check out the registration section.  Registration page has been updated with a user friendly fill in form, so no need to copy and past the form into an Email.  Get on the list!
